BALANCENESS WIDE COVERS (21).png

on creativity as a state of mind, embracing polarities and becoming a boss innovator

Where to Stream:

Today I had the pleasure of chatting with Dr. Ieva Martinaityte, who has been researching workplace creativity and innovative behavior for 15 years. Her research findings have been published in leading journals, such as Journal of Management, Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, and Journal of Organizational Behavior. Ieva has taught courses at the University College London and the University of Cambridge and is now a visiting lecturer at University of East Anglia in the UK. She is also the founder of a CreativityLab (www.creativitylab.co.uk) whose mission is to  demystify creativity and make it accessible to everyone, which is exactly why I wanted to speak with her. Ieva is also the author of D!P® method, which teaches individuals how to work and live like an innovator. The D!P® method includes research backed, practical visual nudges to spark daily creative routines through play cards that have been shipped to more than 10 countries and 3 continents (link below).

Ieva and I met several months ago and being the creative natured person that I am, I totally geeked out on her work. I loved the idea of a tried and true method to get us into the creative flow because as we all know creativity can feel elusive at times. So, I asked Ieva on the podcast to learn more about how we can harness the power of creativity to boost our productivity, innovation, and most importantly, our sense of balance. In this episode, we talk about how Ieva’s D!P method, like Balancesness, was born out of a desire for balance and, spoiler alert, how integrating play or physical activity into our daily routines can change our output. We also explain the interesting polarities in her work, such as how mundane activities like cleaning can be creative and how we can “work” while not working, which really changed the way I have been thinking about my daily schedule. If you are looking to understand how to integrate work, life and creativity, this episode is for you. Mėgautis (enjoy in Lithuanian)!
